ERP Is called Enterprise Resource Planning

It is a business software, which has modules for all the departments of a company. These modules are integrated with each other, which minimized data entry effort, and gives smart reports

As a business owner, you can keep a birds-eye view on the business, while watching entries made by each department user.

What an ERP system does

An ERP system keeps a business’s core records in one database: customers, suppliers, items, stock, orders, invoices, payments and employees. Each department works in its own part of the system, but all of them work on the same data, so a sale updates stock and accounts at the same time.

Why businesses move to ERP

  • Information is entered once, instead of in several spreadsheets or programs.
  • Stock, receivables and cash are up to date, without waiting for month-end.
  • Approvals and processes follow the same steps every time.
  • Reports agree with each other, because they read the same records.

Open-source ERP

Open-source ERP systems such as ERPNext publish their source code under an open licence. The software itself is free to use, and anyone who knows its framework can extend it. What a business pays for is hosting, implementation and support.
